You’re Not Fat But Your Environment Could Be

Genetically speaking we all have a different make up! Some people can eat more calories and get away with it due to genetics, however we are not born to be fat…..

Let’s use a prime example:

Like father like son. Do you ever noticed that most kids that are overweight often follow in the parent’s footsteps?

Now this may be a little controversial but, a child is a direct byproduct of their environment… an environment created by their parents/guardian/carer. Therefore if the individuals responsible for that child eat poorly, ignore their own personal health issues (being overweight) and do nothing to counteract their poor decisions such as drive over walk…. Unfortunately, the chances are that this child will mirror this lifestyle and continue to, resulting in a negative cycle.

Now let’s move away from blaming it on the parentings and shift our focus laterally to our environment in general:

Today:

- Fast food on every corner

- Transport readily available

- McDonalds advertising more common than any vegetable promos

Historically:

- We would need to hunt down animals for food

- Fast food barely existed

- Walking was the common option to get from A to B

See the difference here?

Simply put – We are in an environment built for obesity and convenience. Go back many years ago and we would have to expand 5x the amount of calories we were about to consume to get a meal.

Now we can do as little as 5 steps (oh wait uber eats anyone?) to gain 1000cals worth of pizza. Our environment is fat!

How to get away from it?

- Walk as much as possible

- Avoid fast food where possible

- If going out for dinner, try and burn calories to earn that meal (think ‘I need to earn that reward’)

Simple!
