Have You Found Your Ikigai?

Recently I was lucky enough to travel to Japan…. a country that I have had on my bucketlist for quite some time! I had always been intrigued by the manic of Tokyo and loved their will to keep their countries history and traditions alive… especially through art (Just look at the tattoo on my arm!). But while exploring Japan, I noticed how happy and peaceful the people were, how even the elderly were so active and witnessed their daily routines which included praying at the temples nestled throughout the cities… I became increasingly interest in their way of life. With this interest, I started reading books written by Japanese philosopher’s and came across a word that has now changed my perspective on life and that I feel the need to share with all of you! Ikigai.

Ikigai roughly translates to ‘reason of being’ and raises a few questions that the Japanese believe to be the secret to a long and happy life.

Let’s have a look at some questions…

What are you good at?

What people do you want to be around day to day?

What do you love to do most?

Have you ever asked yourself such simple questions?

By answering these questions, you are able to find your purpose in life… and with a purpose in life you are able to feel fulfilment… a feeling that is often rare to find.

For myself…

I am good at motivating and interacting with people as well as training and dieting.

I like to surround myself with like-minded people that are determined to reach their personal goals (Which I have found in Team EV).

And I love to be active… whether that’s walking, training, going for a swim in the ocean or even keeping my mind active by reading.

So by answering these 3 questions I can understand why my profession gives me so much joy.

But you may be asking what does this have to do with fitness?

The reason I love fitness and the industry I work in is not just because I see individuals achieve crazy physical results, but it’s also a great emotional outlet where you are able to designate 30 mins-1 hour each day for yourself where along with exercising you are able to release stress and take some time to gain some mental clarify on areas that maybe having a negative impact on your well-being.

Email me and share your answers to these questions, I would love to know!
