As I write this blog I’m sitting in my local café sipping on a batch brew… so it seems only fitting to write this blog on everyone’s morning saviour… COFFEE!
Coffee is one of those things that we simply cannot live without, having more benefits than just our much-needed caffeine hit taking us from zombies to fully functioning human beings. When dieting or intermittent fasting, a black coffee works like magic to supress appetite without stacking up calories for your daily intake and also allows us to take a moment each morning/afternoon to sit, relax and escape reality.
But while this all sounds good and well there are a few of us (including myself) that have a bit of a sweet tooth and opt for a sweetener when ordering their coffee… and that sounds fine doesn’t it? Choosing a sweetener over sugar… no calories! But the issue lies in the activation of hormone release. When our taste buds taste something sweet, we release a hormone called ghrelin. Ghrelin is the hunger hormone, which is pretty self-explanatory… when its released it makes us hungry, which then works in reverse when drinking coffee to supress appetite.
So what is the solution you may be thinking? Simply drink black coffee…. Trust me you will get used to it very quickly! And if you’re craving that sweet taste drink your regular coffee order just before your next meal!
Just a little tip to help keep you satiated from coffee.
And that will be it for this year… Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We will be back with more blogs from the 20th of January 2020. For now relax, enjoy spending time with your friends and family and as always count intuitively (with a few Christmas Day treats!).
